About
I am a hybrid artist-ecologist with an MSc in the Environmental Sciences and an MFA in Digital Arts & New Media. Currently I am a PhD candidate in Film & Digital Media at University of California, Santa Cruz. My work centers on developing and uncovering new ideas which support biodiversity and community development. I have experience in scientific synthesis, as well as the disciplines of counter-mapping, communications design, interactive film, and immersive installation. Some of my past projects have focused on resilient forest fire ecologies, the reversal of global desertification processes, reimagining foraging cityscapes, watershed regeneration initiatives, and collecting “Stories for Survival”, among others. All of my work involves post-disciplinary systems thinking, which I believe is a crucial mind set for addressing the worlds most pressing eco-political challenges.
My work moves across several interconnected forms:
Film and Sound Experimental and documentary works that explore ecological perception, duration, and multispecies relations.
Field Practice Multichannel recording, sensing, and site-based research that engage environments as living communicative systems.
Writing A developing body of work, including a book Listening for Liberation: Embodied Ecology for a Fractured World, which explores listening as a practice of ecological care.
Stories for Survival An evolving online platform and podcast that connects and amplifies people working in restoration, conservation, and climate adaptation.
Workshops and Teaching Guided practices in listening, nature journaling, and embodied ecological awareness.
